A $570,000 U.S. Department of Labor grant is being awarded to the Veterans Outreach Center in Rochester to help local veterans find meaningful employment.
The center, established in 1973, provides transitional housing, mental health services, educational and vocational training programs and other supportive services for veterans and their families. It is the oldest of its kind and successfully places 75 percent of veterans.
“With this funding, Rochester vets who have fallen on hard times can get what they need to get back on track,” said Sen. Charles Schumer who announced the grant.
“These resources are critical to our continued successful efforts to find veterans meaningful employment, especially in this very difficult economy,” said Jim McDonough, president and CEO of Veterans Outreach Center Inc.
This grant is as part of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program. More information may be found at www.dol.gov/vets.
