GRAWA is well on its way to completing the finishing touches for this year’s New Member Reception, which will be held Sept. 13 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Bond Schoeneck & King. We are looking forward to meeting and getting to know all of our new members and are looking forward to the new venue as well.
While the event is primarily to welcome our new members, this year we also will be honoring those individuals who have achieved their 10th and 25th year of membership with GRAWA. So whether you are a new member or on your way to becoming a veteran, the reception will have something for everyone. I urge all of our members to attend, even if it’s just to grab a cocktail and exchange pleasantries.
GRAWA’s membership year runs from July 2017 to May 2018. Being a GRAWA member provides you with so many great benefits. One of these benefits is the ability to grow both your personal and professional relationships in the legal community. We have several committees that always welcome new members and are involved in planning events, CLEs and community service projects. Through our mentorship program, you can volunteer to serve as a mentor; if you are a younger attorney, you can have a mentor assigned to you. Quite simply, GRAWA gives you the ability to meet some wonderful people and to build relationships that may last a lifetime.
Unlike other bar associations, your membership in GRAWA automatically makes you a member of the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York (WBASNY). GRAWA is one of 19 chapters throughout New York State that make up WBASNY. So for those who are thinking the benefits associated with GRAWA are localized to the Rochester area, you are mistaken. The network you can develop through your GRAWA membership is rather vast and entitles you to an array of perks and resources that many non-members (and even members) may not be familiar with.
For anyone interested in joining GRAWA, please visit our website at www.grawa.org and fill out the membership form. The information regarding how to submit your payment is also available on the website. Going forward, I promise to not belabor this point and will not make my column in The Daily Record a platform to solicit people to join GRAWA. However, as president of GRAWA, an obvious goal I have is to grow our membership and to that end, I sincerely hope you will sign up and join us at the New Member Reception in September.
My column is not long enough for me to tell you about all of the fabulous opportunities I have received through my affiliation with GRAWA during my 12 years of practicing in Rochester. So, you will just have to take my word for it and find out what you’ve been missing. See you in September!
