Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks and Rochester Mayor Robert Duffy joined the producers of the 2010 Lilac Festival recently to announce the entertainment schedule for this year’s festival.
The Lilac Festival, with its roots dating back to 1898, will be held from May 14-23 at Highland Park. Organizers say the festival is the largest of its kind in North America and the longest running festival in the greater Rochester area. More than 500 varieties of lilacs on 1,200 bushes are the main draw for the festival.
Other events at the festival include a children’s stage with magicians and music, food vendors, the Lilac Parade, a farmers market and wine tasting, and a 10K and 5K family fun run.
Artists scheduled for the main stage include Sister Hazel, 10,000 Maniacs, Rita Coolidge, Vonda Shepard, Elijuri and Remembering Ralph. At the children’s stage are Chris Wilkinson the Magic Guy, Dinner Dogs, Singer “Tiger” Tom Walsh, Magic John and Mike Kornrich on banjo and guitar.
