WNY Minority Bar to present awards

The Minority Bar Association of Western New York will honor area attorneys and law students with and awards and scholarship dinner at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 16 at the Buffalo-Niagara Convention Center.

The 2010 award recipients are:

  • President’s Award: Susan C. Roney, managing partner of Nixon Peabody’s Buffalo office;
  • Trailblazer Award: Mark G. Pearce, National Labor Relations Board Member;
  • Community Service Award: Eric Walker of PUSH Buffalo, and David Stapleton of David Homes;
  • Education Award: Barbara A. Sherk, director of Academic Support for UB Law School, and Lillie V. Wiley-Upshaw, UB Law School’s vice dean for Admissions;
  • Legal Service Award: Jessica M. Lazarin, for her efforts on behalf of the Volunteer Lawyer’s Project; 
  • Person of the Year Award: Sartoria Donovan, executive director of Urban Professionals of WNY, Inc.;
  • John L. Hargrave Scholarship Award: Erica Smith, UB Law student; and
  • Marie Nesbitt Promise Prize Award: Duwaine T. Bascoe, UB Law student.
