GREECE — After a nearly four-year delay, Walmart is building a supercenter in an upstate New York suburb.
A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for next Thursday in Greece.
The town granted approval in 2007 for the retail giant to move ahead with a 146,000-square-foot store at Northgate Plaza. Construction was delayed by a series of legal challenges from two activist groups that were knocked down in 2009 and 2010.
The plaza’s owners began demolishing portions of the 1950s-era shopping center last fall to make way for the store.
Walmart says it will have more than 30 aisles of general merchandise and a full-service grocery section with a bakery and deli.
