LSC taps Washington attorney for leadership post

The Legal Services Corporation has announced the appointment of Carol A. Bergman as director of Government Relations and Public Affairs.
As of Monday, Bergman is overseeing LSC’s relationships with Congress, the Government Accountability Office and other government agencies.
“Carol brings deep and diverse experience in governmental affairs at the national level,” said LSC President James J. Sandman. “Her leadership will be invaluable to LSC’s collaboration with our funders, our stakeholders, and our partners in promoting access to justice.”
Prior to joining LSC, Bergman was deputy executive director of the Global AIDS Alliance. Her more than 25 years of experience in the federal government and non-profit sector includes service as associate counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Government Operations and as director of legislative affairs for the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. She began her career as director of a program for abused women and their children.
Bergman’s accomplishments also include teaching at The George Washington University, American University Washington College of Law and Hampshire College; testifying before congressional and state legislative committees; and numerous publications. She is a graduate of Hampshire College and Golden Gate University School of Law.
