Wanted man’s Web postings lead to arrest

LOCKPORT — Police didn’t have to wear out any shoe leather tracking down Christopher Crego.

The 39-year-old fugitive from western New York all but turned himself in by posting his workplace on the social networking sites Facebook and MySpace. Police in the city of Lockport passed the information along to U.S. Marshals, who arrested Crego Wednesday at the Terre Haute, Ind., tattoo parlor where he worked.

Crego had been wanted since he failed to show up for a sentencing hearing after pleading guilty last fall to assault. He was also charged with drunken driving, drug possession and using a BB gun to kill birds.

Lockport police posted a thank-you note on Crego’s Facebook page that read, “It was due to your diligence in keeping us informed that now you are under arrest.”
