NY court overturns adoption by J&J heiress

ALBANY — New York’s top court has overturned the adoption of a Cambodian orphan by a Johnson & Johnson heiress who’s been fighting for custody of the child with her former diet doctor boyfriend.

The state Court of Appeals’ unanimous decision upholds lower courts that invalidated Elizabeth “Libet” Johnson’s adoption order in New York state.

A midlevel court had already affirmed that diet doctor Lionel Bissoon is the adoptive father of the 7-year-old boy.

Richard A. Greenberg, Johnson’s lawyer, says he has several options, including taking the international case to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The child continues to live with Johnson.

The decision also states that although Bissoon doesn’t want to remove the child from Johnson’s home, he maintains that he could under the law.
