Local children’s author Charles Noland on Friday will read a selection from his chapter book series “The Adventures of Drew and Ellie” to elementary school students at Adlai E. Stevenson School 29.
Each student will receive an autographed copy of “The Missing Medal,” a book with messages about honesty, integrity and trust.
Noland’s visit to the school is sponsored by the Monroe County Bar Association’s Lawyers for Learning program, which is purchasing 200 books for the students and 25 percent of the proceeds will go to former Rochester school superintendent William Cala’s Joining Hearts and Hands Foundation, which is building a school in Africa.
The event will begin at 8 a.m. with a welcome breakfast with Cala.
Lawyers for Learning is comprised of more than 75 mentors from the local legal community — including lawyers, paralegals, administrative assistants and others — who devote at least one hour a week to School 29 students, providing help with reading and math and serving as positive role models.
