UB Law Students of Color to honor alumni

Themed “Lifting as We Climb,” the University at Buffalo Law School’s annual Students of Color Dinner will bring together graduating and continuing students, faculty and a variety of alumni and friends to celebrate the year’s achievements.

The April 15 dinner will be held at the Buffalo Niagara Marriott, presented by the Asian American Law Students Association, the Black Law Students Association and the Latin American Law Students Association.

The organizations will honor the achievements of their members set to graduate in May and will recognize distinguished alumni, minority trailblazers in law and professors.

The keynote address will be delivered by Associate Professor Rick Su, who teaches immigration and local government law.

Distinguished Alumni Awards will be presented to Trini E. Ross, ‘92, assistant U.S. attorney and member of the Dean’s Advisory Council; Mark G. Pearce, ‘78, of Creighton, Pearce, Johnsen & Giroux, recently named by President Obama to the National Labor Relations Board; and Dr. Chanse Leon Kim, ‘75, a private practitioner from Seoul, Korea, who will accept his award by video.

The Trailblazer Award will be given to Sheldon K. Smith, ‘01, president of the Minority Bar Association of Western New York. The Jacob D. Hyman Professor of the Year Award will be given to SUNY Distinguished Service Professor Charles Patrick Ewing, director of UB Law’s Legal Skills program. 

The Hon. Rose H. Sconiers, ‘73, recently appointed to the Appellate Division, Fourth Department panel will read a special poem.
