Mayor Robert J. Duffy believes a Mortimer Street bus terminal project should proceed despite a Monday decision by the Rochester City Planning Commission.
The commission recommended against approving actions needed to proceed with the proposed Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority project.
“The recommendation vote was based on several legitimate concerns and I respect the independent commission’s decision, although it is non binding,” Duffy said in a release. “The very same transportation, development, safety and environmental concerns raised by the commission are being addressed by the administration, City Council and RGRTA through numerous work sessions, meetings and public discussions.
“I am confident that these issues will be addressed in the next phase of the project. We should move forward with this project and not forfeit a more than $50 million investment that our center city so desperately needs.”
