ROCHESTER — Paychex Inc. CEO Jonathan Judge is stepping down after nearly six years at the helm of Thomas Golisano’s payroll processing company.
Paychex, based in Penfield, did not give a reason for the move. It said Judge was leaving at the end of the month “to pursue other interests.”
Golisano, a billionaire who launched Paychex in 1971, made three failed runs for governor of New York. He hired Judge, a longtime IBM Corp. executive, to replace him as president and chief executive in 2004, but he retained the role of chairman.
Paychex is one of the nation’s largest providers of payroll and human-resource services. It has 536,000 clients, 12,200 employees and sales of $2 billion.
