Action for a Better Community and The Rochester Initiative for Structure Equality Coalition will host a daylong educational conference, “Advancing Structural Equality,” at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 26 at the RIT Inn & Conference Center.
The event will include presentations and workshops led by national and local experts to raise awareness of concepts of structural equality, which refers to an environment without institutional policies and/or practices that have a detrimental impact on racial and ethnic minorities.
Guest speakers will include Professor John A. Powell, executive director, Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity, Ohio State University; and Mary Virtue, program director, Racial Equality and Economic Security Project of the national Community Action Partnership.
Rochester is one of seven cities nationwide participating in a national “Racial Equality and Economic Security” pilot project sponsored by the Community Action Partnership and supported by the Ford Foundation.
