ALBANY — New York state’s unemployment rate rose to 8.3 percent in August, up from 8.2 percent in July. The state economy added 2,500 private sector jobs.
The state labor department says New York City’s jobless rate was 9.4 percent, unchanged from July and down from 10.1 percent in August 2009. The latest figures released Thursday show the number of unemployed New Yorkers climbed to 801,400 in August from 796,000 a month earlier.
The national rate stood at 9.5 percent in August.
