Yahoo! Inc. recently completed the first phase of its multi-phased investment in Western New York.
The company finished construction and opened a new $150 million data center, which state officials said created 125 new high-tech jobs.
The center will host consumer services, advertisements and content found on Yahoo!
Phase I focused on the construction of four buildings, including an administrative building and three data wings where the company’s servers are stored. Construction began in May 2009 and was just completed earlier this month.
In order to locate operations to Lockport site, Yahoo! received several incentives including 15 megawatts of low-cost hydropower from the New York Power Authority and a “Green IT” grant from the U.S. Department for leadership in energy efficient design. The Town of Lockport Industrial Development Agency also put together a package of incentives, including a payment in lieu of taxes agreement.
Yahoo! is based in Sunnyvale, Calif.
