Hoffman Warnick LLC has released the Rochester Patent Index for the Third Quarter.
It includes data for Monroe and Ontario counties, with and without Xerox and Kodak, and shows evidence of the U.S. Patent Office’s continuing attempts to attack its backlog which includes a high number of Rochester-area patent issuances.
“The overall number of issuances continued to grow to record levels, with a slight decrease in the number of non-Xerox and non-Kodak patents,” said Michael Hoffman, a partner at Hoffman Warnick which has offices in Rochester and Albany. “I think this is a strong indicator of the region’s underlying technology base. Even though the non-Xerox/Kodak numbers were slightly off, the level of activity is still impressive, making up about 60 percent of the overall count.”
He said the figures indicate the Rochester area has a diverse base of innovation and significant investment in research and development. Copies of the report are available on the firm’s website at www.hoffmanwarnick.com.
