VICTOR — Officials in Victor have rejected a local Walmart store’s request to remain open through Thanksgiving night into the morning of Black Friday.
The town of Victor Planning Board Tuesday turned down Walmart’s application to remain open past its usual 11 p.m. closing time. Normal business hours for the store are 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The world’s largest retailer announced this week that most of its stores would open at midnight the night of Thanksgiving to give shoppers a head-start on hunting for holiday bargains with the exception of the Victor store.
Nearby homeowners had opposed the store’s request to stay open all night, fearing it would set a precedent against the town’s originally approved hours which were a condition of allowing the store to be built in the town.
