Alden man sentenced for threatening witness

Chad Koschuk, 40, of Alden, Erie County, has been sentenced to 18 months in jail by Chief U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny.

Koschuk was convicted by a jury July 22 of threatening to retaliate against a witness in the related racketeering case against his father, Alex Koschschuk.

U.S. Attorneys Anthony M. Bruce and Russell T. Ippolito, who handled the trial, said Koschuk had been accused of threatening the witness because the witness had provided information to the FBI about his father and testified before the grand jury. The threat happened during a chance meeting Sept. 11, 2009 at a convenience food store in Alden.

The sentencing was the culmination of an investigation by the FBI.
