Business owner plans to run for mayor

Alex White, a Rochester business owner, intends to seek the Green Party’s nomination for mayor of the city of Rochester.

He plans to officially announce his intentions this afternoon in front of City Hall with Howie Hawkins, who recently ran as Green Party candidate for governor.

White, 47, is the owner and operator of Boldo’s Armory, a live gaming store on Monroe Avenue. He is a Rochester native who grew up in Webster and returned to the city to run his business and take care of his father who suffered a stroke several years ago. White is active in the Monroe Avenue Merchants Association and a frequent commentator at Rochester City Council meetings.

He tried to run against Mayor Robert Duffy in 2009, but his petitions were ruled ineligible following a Democratic challenge.

White’s platform includes a public utility for Rochester, a return to community policing and a definite stand against mayoral control of the city school district.

White is going through the process to seek Green Party endorsement, filling out the party’s online questionnaire and scheduling a party interview. He says if he is not the nominee, he will fully support the person who is named the Green Party’s candidate.
