Western NY teen charged with shooting twin brother

ROYALTON — Authorities say a 15-year-old boy has been charged with shooting his twin brother in the hip during a dispute inside their western New York home.

The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office says the wounded teen was hit with bird shot from a shotgun fired by his brother around 2 p.m. Monday at their home in the town of Royalton, 25 miles northeast of Buffalo.

Authorities say the shooting occurred during a family dispute but aren’t releasing other details, including the teens’ names.

The injured boy is in stable condition at a Buffalo hospital. His injuries aren’t considered life-threatening.

His brother was charged as an adult and was arraigned on a first-degree assault charge. He was being held at the Niagara County Jail on $10,000 bail.

It was immediately known if he had a lawyer.
