WEBSTER — A construction worker has been run over and killed by a small locomotive used to haul debris out of a water-treatment plant tunnel being bored under Lake Ontario.
Police in the Rochester suburb of Webster say the victim fell off the locomotive Monday in the main artery of a $150 million water-treatment plant that is under construction near the lake shore.
Webster police Lt. Michael Chiapperini told the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle that the victim, who was not immediately identified, was part of a five-man crew tunneling through bedrock more than 100 feet below the lake bottom. Further details on the accident were not disclosed.
The Monroe County Water Authority says the plant will supply an estimated 50 million gallons of water a day when it is completed in 2013.
