Syracuse attorney honored by COSA

The National School Boards Association Council of School Attorneys honored two leaders for contributions to public schools at the 2011 Annual School Law Seminar in San Francisco.

Benjamin J. Ferrara of Syracuse and Anthony G. Scariano of Chicago were each presented with COSA’s 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award for exemplary leadership in legal advocacy and distinguished service to COSA.

Ferrara is managing partner of Ferrara, Fiorenza, Larrison, Barrett & Reitz PC and is a past chair of COSA. He has been in practice for more than 37 years and is known for his work among lawyers specializing in the representation of school districts.

Under his leadership, the Ferrara firm has grown to become the largest practice in the educational field in New York state, representing 155 school districts, municipalities and other public entities in the state.

“I have always valued public education and I am proud to provide guidance and legal advice to aid school districts in creating the best environment and services possible for students,” Ferrara said.
