Erik R. Teifke, a Monroe County special assistant public defender, has been appointed a practitioner-in-residence at the Syracuse University College of Law.
He will be the director of the college’s Criminal Defense Clinic for one year beginning in early July.
Public Defender Timothy P. Donaher said Teifke, who has been with the office for 16 years, will take a leave of absence from his post as violent felony offense supervisor. Donaher said Teifke’s caseload will be handled by Assistant Public Defender Jon Griffin, and First Assistant Public Defender Roger Brazill will handle Teifke’s supervisory duties.
Teifke said his students in Syracuse will be given actual cases from Syracuse City Court. They will interview clients and witnesses, investigate cases, make court appearances, file motions and participate in pretrial hearings and trials. There will also be classroom lectures and case discussions.
