Red Cross to collect at the Public Market

This Saturday is Red Cross Day at the Rochester Public Market, 280 N. Union St. The American Red Cross Traveling Donor Center will be on site from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. to assist in offsetting a critical blood shortage in the community.

The summer is typically a time when donations tend to drop due to travel and planned activities and maintaining adequate blood supplies can become more challenging, according to the Red Cross. All blood types are needed.

All blood donors who are able to give blood will receive a Best Buy coupon redeemable through July 15.

Each blood donation has the potential to save up to three lives. Red blood cells help people with severe trauma injuries and chronic anemia. Platelets benefit cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, and plasma helps burn victims and patients with critical diseases.

To schedule an appointment to donate blood at any time, call 1-800-Red CROSS. Identification is required at the time of donation.
