Local businessman Alex White is hoping to get the Green Party nomination to run for the South District seat on the Rochester City Council, held by Adam McFadden.
White, who lost a bid for mayor earlier this year, announced his intentions Monday morning in front of No. 8 Engine Fire Station, 1261 South Ave.
He said he has observed City Council for years and spoken to its members so he is familiar with McFadden’s work. He said he admires McFadden’s dedication to the city, but disagrees with the direction he has taken on a number of issues.
“I look forward to discussing these differences at community forums, in the media and in the streets,” White said. “Rochester is still a city in trouble. It is gripped by poverty, afflicted by a failing education system and terrorized by crime.”
White said he has submitted his application seeking the Green Party designation and is preparing for the November election.
