Wambach’s hometown rejoices as she scores again

PITTSFORD — The U.S. women’s World Cup soccer run in Germany is providing plenty of business for the sports bar owned by star player Abby Wambach’s brother.

Relatives and friends packed the Back Nine Grill in Pittsford, Wambach’s hometown, during yesterday’s 3-1 U.S. victory over France in Germany. Wambach scored her third goal of the tournament, sending the crowd inside Matt Wambach’s bar into a frenzy.

Her sister Laura and nearly 30 other family members were among the 250 people watching the game on televisions in the tavern. Many wore jerseys with Wambach’s number 20.

Matt Wambach says his parents and brother were at the game in Germany.

The U.S. will play Japan on Sunday for the championship.
