The Rochester Black Bar Association recently marked a successful fundraiser for the Flower City Soccer League. The group raised nearly $2,500 at an event hosted at Virtu Restaurant in the historic Corn Hill neighborhood.

“That’s our best year ever,” said RBBA President J.B. Afoh-Manin. “We’re very happy about that. Our goal is to connect RBBA attorneys to the greater community and we feel that this program, Flower City Soccer League, is an outstanding example of trying to mentor young people through sports, discipline and teamwork.”

About 100 people attended, including attorneys, coaches, players and community leaders. Afohmanin, a soccer fan, said a lot of RBBA members also volunteer as coaches and ride shares.

“As a soccer fan, it’s nice to be able to give back to a local organization that is trying to change the life trajectory of these kids,” he said.
