Washington, D.C., attorney Richard Taranto will speak on “Law at the Edge of Psychiatry” on Wednesday at the University of Rochester Medical Center.
Taranto, a partner in the firm Farr & Taranto, is a U.S. Supreme Court and Appellate Court attorney who has worked on a number of briefs related to psychiatric issues during the several years he represented the American Psychiatric Association.
A 1981 graduate of Yale Law School, Taranto served as a law clerk to former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor and worked in the Solicitor General’s Office of the Justice Department during the 1980s. He has also taught at Georgetown and Harvard law schools.
The program will run from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the Class of 1962 Auditorium. It is the 25th Charles E. Steinberg Lecture in Psychiatry and the Law offered by the university’s Forensic Psychiatry and Law Fellowship Program. Participants will receive 1.5 CLE or CME credit hours. The series is named after Steinberg, who worked in the Department of Psychiatry for many years. He died in 1999.
