NY puts sex offender locator on Facebook

Listen to this articleALBANY — New York state’s sex offender registry is now available on Facebook.
Acting Criminal Justice Commissioner Sean Byrne says with Halloween around the corner, parents now have another tool to learn where sex offenders live so they can steer their kids away from those homes.
Through the state’s Public Safety site on Facebook (www.facebook.com/NYSPublicSafety ), you can click on a link to the New York Sex Offender Locator on the left side of the page. From there you can search by the offender’s last name, or find all the offenders in a county or a particular ZIP code.
There are almost 33,000 registered sex offenders on the state’s Sex Offender Registry.
