BATAVIA — Officials say they’re hoping to entice a food company to open a mammoth processing plant in Batavia in western New York that could employ as many as 400 people.
Sen. Charles Schumer is calling on the U.S. Department of Agriculture to provide between $300,000 and $500,000 to help pay for sewer and infrastructure work at an agribusiness park just east of the city of Batavia, located midway between Buffalo and Rochester.
The company’s identity hasn’t been disclosed.
Schumer says the federal funding needs to be secured to enable the construction of a $247 million plant. Officials say within three years of being built, the factory could employ an estimated 300 to 400 people.
