A teenage mother has been sentenced to eight years in prison for causing disfiguring injuries to her 4-year-old son by holding him down in scalding bath water.

Nineteen-year-old Saamiya Thomas, who pleaded guilty to assault, was sentenced Monday for the attack on Super Bowl Sunday last year that left her child with second- and third-degree burns over 40 percent of his body.

The boy spent weeks in hospital, underwent a tracheotomy and has been placed in foster care.

Prosecutor Sara VanStrydonck said the boy still won’t get into a bathtub and “will pay the physical and mental consequences of what his mother did to him for the rest of his life.”

Thomas drew a one-year concurrent sentence for attempting to sneak a knife into jail and for possessing forged checks.
