Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks has been identified by the National Republican Congressional Committee as an “On the Radar” candidate in her campaign for a congressional seat.

Her campaign announced Thursday that the designation is a significant second step in the “Young Guns” program. Brooks is running for New York’s redrawn 25th Congressional District, challenging long-term Rep. Louise Slaughter of Fairport.

“We are looking forward to working with Maggie Brooks, who has already proven herself by meeting rigorous benchmarks in the ‘Young Guns’ program that will position her campaign for victory,” said  NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions, R-Texas, in a release.

The Young Guns Program was created in the 2007-2008 cycle as a member-driven organization of House Republicans dedicated to electing open seat and challenger candidates nationwide.

Brooks said she was grateful for the recognition.

“Following an outpouring of support from local voters since we announced our intention to bring the Monroe County record of success to Washington only a few short weeks ago, I am proud that our message of more jobs, lower taxes and higher quality of life is garnering significant national attention as well,” she said.
