The Board of Paralegal Association of Rochester is always trying to think outside the box for interesting topics to present to both our members and, as always, any potential new members.

This spring, PAR hosted a seminar on cyberbullying, which we thought would be a very timely topic. Perhaps not surprisingly, the turnout was very high and the audience participation exceeded expectations.

Erica DiRenzo, with Trevett Cristo Salzer & Andolina PC, presented the topic in an informal, open discussion format, which was well accepted. While cyberbullying is a new concept to some, it was not new to this audience. Many of the members in attendance were mothers with school-age children and this current topic really hit home because of school-age children’s use of social media and the effects it has on children in school and at home.

In the same way we try to think of interesting and relevant seminars, the same amount of thought goes into our events.

This month we had our 3rd Annual Casino Night. For PAR we hit the “jackpot” of success! An evening of roulette and blackjack brought laughter and good times while knowing the proceeds were for a good cause.

This year, PAR chose the Monroe County Legal Assistance Center as its charitable organization to receive a portion of the proceeds. At the end of all the dealings, $1,000 was raised for MCLAC, which was well represented with 11 employees in attendance.

PAR would like to specifically thank the following sponsors who supported the event, and their support was greatly appreciated: Chicago Title, Counsel Press, D4, Hiscock & Barclay LLP, Merzbach Law Office, Stewart Title and Webtitle.

What’s exciting is that we have more events to come this year. Next up is our Annual Dinner, May 25 at Hose 22 in Rochester, at 6 p.m. Paralegals interested in becoming members are encouraged to come and see what PAR is all about, and get to meet members of the association who will be attending.

All those interested in attending the event, please contact Michele McKay at MMckay@HarrisBeach.com.
