Rick Lazio, former U.S. representative from Long Island, is a new partner in the law firm of Jones, Walker, Waechter, Poitevent, Carrere & Denegre, LLP.
He will head the firm’s first New York office.
Lazio will focus on affordable housing and related housing finance, as well as financial services.
“I am excited to be joining Jones Walker and to be leading their move to New York,” Lazio said in a release. “The firm has a long history of advocating for housing issues, particularly after hurricane Katrina, and the attorneys continue to work with Congress to improve housing for many throughout the U.S.”
Lazio will also have an office in Jones Walker’s Washington office.
Lazio, a Republican, became well known nationally when he ran for the U.S. Senate in 2000, losing to Hillary Rodham Clinton. While a congressman, Lazio served as deputy majority whip and assistant majority leader.
Most recently, Lazio served as CEO of the Financial Services Forum and was a member of the executive committee of JPMorgan Chase.
