Groups ask for probe of Cuomo, business lobby link

ALBANY — A coalition of advocates for the poor and middle class have called for the state to investigate the relationship between Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the powerful business lobby that’s supported him with an unprecedented TV ad campaign.

The Public Accountability Initiative is backed by groups often aligned with public worker unions and joined by the Occupy Albany movement. It released a report Monday saying the lobbying group called the Committee to Save New York operates a $10 million “secret slush fund” for the governor.

Cuomo’s administration recently confirmed the governor has coordinated some activities with the lobbying group, which refuses to disclose its donors.

The committee supported Cuomo’s cap on property tax growth and some, but not all, of his other policies.

The administration didn’t initially comment on Monday’s report
