Paralegal Perspectives: Paralegal association swears in new board members

Whew! This is such a busy time of year — weddings, graduation parties, end-of-year activities, summer sports, and the list goes on. And here at the Paralegal Association of Rochester it is no different.

On May 16, we held our Annual Meeting at Hose 22 in Rochester. A new PAR board was installed for the 2012-2013 year.

I’m pleased to announce my colleagues on the board: Patty Sexstone of Forsyth Law Firm as board advisor; Jane Gorski of Boylan Code as secretary; Doug Kaleta of Harris Beach as treasurer; Melanie Lavacca of Hiscock & Barclay as membership; Michele McKay of Harris Beach as VP of professional development; Shirley Calhoun of Harris Beach as VP of public relations; Deborah King as NFPA primary, Stefanie Medina of Fero & Ingersoll as NFPA secondary; Dina Beaudette of Merzbach Law Firm as VP website and employment; and we’re pleased to welcome back to the board as a director-at-large Deborah Wilcox Mabry of Nixon Peabody.

PAR is in the process of partnering with D4 to sponsor a Redwings Family Fun Night for the members of PAR, tentatively scheduled for Aug. 3 — pencil it in your calendars and be on the lookout for information to come out in the very near future.

We are hard at work beginning our preparations for the Kick-Off Meeting in September, which features our always fun and ever growing Chinese Auction. As always, this is certain to be another fun evening with networking, laughs and an all-around good time.

After the summer winds down and school is back in session, we have a tour planned for the Crime Lab here in Rochester on Oct. 26 at 3 p.m.

Hope to see you at some of our upcoming events. Stay cool. Enjoy your summer.

DeAnna R. Martelle of Hiscock & Barclay is president of the Paralegal Association of Rochester.
