Two local students have received $1,000 college scholarships from Xceed Financial Credit Union.

Teresa Freeborn, Xceed president and chief executive, presented oversized check replicas June 27 to Kylie Reiber of Walworth, and Kerry Huang of Webster.

The awards are in honor of the late Romeo Doty, Xceed’s longest-tenured board member and a passionate advocate of higher education.

Entrants were evaluated on their academic records, contributions, and extracurricular activities in their schools and communities. Each student also had to write an essay describing the responsibility of educating teens and college students about financial literacy.

Kylie recently graduated from Wayne Central High School and will attend Slippery Rock University this fall.

Kerry recently graduated from Webster Schroeder High School and will attend the University of Pennsylvania.
