Lawyer sentenced for embezzlement

Thomas J. Barnes, 55, of Buffalo, has been sentenced by U.S. District Chief Judge William M. Skretny eight months home confinement and two years probation for conviction of embezzling from an employee pension benefit plan.

Barnes was also ordered to pay $69,894.51 in restitution.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron J. Mango said Barnes, a lawyer, embezzled and converted to his own use money belonging to Franbilt Inc. 401(k) Plan. Barnes embezzled the money between February 2006 until Franbilt closed in January 2007. He has paid it back.
