Man fatally shot outside sneaker store

GATES — A pair of robbers shot and killed a 19-year-old man waiting outside a store to buy a pair of newly released sneakers, police said Friday.

Several people were lined up outside a closed store in the Chili Hinchey Plaza in Gates around 4 a.m. Friday waiting to buy a new, high-end sneaker by Nike.

Two suspects approached the customers in line and demanded cash at gunpoint, Gates Police Lt. Jim VanBrederode said. The pair stole cash and property from several people before allegedly shooting Montre T. Bradley.

Officers found Bradley with a gunshot wound in the parking lot of the strip mall. Bradley died after being taken to a local hospital.

Authorities believe the assailants had initially tried to rob Montre, left the scene and then returned.
