Perinton winery receives eight medals

Casa Larga Vineyards received several honors at the 2012 New York Wine & Food Classic competition Aug. 13-14 in Watkins Glen, Schuyler County.

The 27th annual awards were based on blind tastings by 23 expert judges who evaluated 752 wines, nine hard ciders and 12 spirits from all over New York.

Casa Larga Vineyards won a double gold medal for its 2010 Gewurztraminer and gold medals for its 2009 Hungarian Oak Chardonnay, Vineyard Hill Riesling and 2009 Fiori Delle Stelle Riesling Ice Wine. The Turk Hill Road winery also won four silvers for its 2011 Dry Riesling, 2009 Pinot Noir, 2008 Fiori Delle Stelle Vidal Ice Wine and Fiori Delle Stelle Ice Wine Cuvee.

The Gewurztraminer previously won a silver medal from the San Francisco Chronicle and is already sold out after its release in February. The winery plans to release the 2011 Gewurztraminer vintage later this year.

This was the first gold medal for the 2009 Hungarian Oak Chardonnay, released in January.

This was the first award for the winery’s newest creation, the Ice Wine Cuvee, released in February and is the first ice wine cuvee released in the United States.
