Slaughter ad ruled ‘inaccurate’

The Fair Campaign Practices Committee has ruled that a Rep. Louise Slaughter, D-Fairport, campaign ad is inaccurate and overstated, although the Slaughter campaign has said it stands by the ad.

The ad claims that taxpayers are footing a $423 million bill as a result of scandals on the watch of Slaughter’s opponent in the 25th Congressional District race, Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks.

The committee said the ad violates Slaughter’s pledge to conduct her campaign accurately, and said the costs associated in the ad are either “significantly overblown or outright false.”

Brooks, who called on Slaughter to pull the ad, also said her opponent is running “one of the most negative, divisive and desperate campaigns in the nation.”
