Ten New York state troopers and two sergeants based in Batavia are heading to Suffolk County where they will join about 400 New York State Police personnel already on the scene, aiding in the recovery and clean up caused by last week’s Hurricane Sandy.
They will operate in various capacities including traffic posts, security details and routine patrols. Deployments are currently scheduled for one week with other troopers scheduled to travel to the area for relief in upcoming days.
The New York State Police said the force remains committed to protecting citizens during its time of need, just as it did in the aftermath of Sept. 11 and Hurricane Katrina.
