The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra will receive a $12,500 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, U.S. Sen. Charles E. Schumer has announced.
The grant will allow the RPO to commission and premier new works by Eastman School of Music Director Douglas Lowry and Karen Takana of the California Institute of the Arts.
“The RPO’s music has inspired the Rochester community since its founding by George Eastman 90 years ago; this NEA grant will help continue that tradition,” said Schumer. “I will continue to fight to preserve New York’s regional philharmonics and orchestras. Keeping New York’s trained musicians in the state brings harmony to the community and boosts the local economy.”
