The New York State Association for Affordable Housing has named the renovation of the Fairport Apartments, 1030 Whitney Road in the town of Perinton, as its Upstate Project of the Year.
The facility underwent extensive rehabilitation including major exterior improvements to the roof, siding and windows and a complete rehabilitation of the interior of all 104 apartments.
In addition, platform lifts were installed in all 13 residential buildings for access to the second floor. There is extensive wheelchair access in the interior of each apartment, including roll-in showers in all the units. This work modernized the apartments, including the implementation of a more functional floor plan. The rehabilitation was done using a variety of green building techniques including solar power and permeable concrete.
Constructed in 1972, this 104-unit apartment campus was redeveloped by the Fairport Baptist Home, Rochester’s Cornerstone Group Ltd. and Perinton Churches Housing, a consortium of 13 local churches.
The award was presented at the Yale Club in New York City.
