Nixon Peabody LLP has expanded its Rochester office with the addition of David C. Stimson and Katherine C. Baynes.

Stimson joins Nixon Peabody’s Brands and Creations practice after 26 years at Eastman Kodak Co. During his 14 years as chief trademark counsel, and as a member of the Trademark, Advertising & Copyright legal staff, Stimson was responsible for the company’s branding and trademark legal policies and practices worldwide.

He oversaw a portfolio of 17,000 trademark registrations; copyrights; oppositions and litigation; and counseling on adoption, protection, use and licensing. Stimson also served as a member in the company’s brand strategy and implementation working with the chief marketing officer in the transformation of Kodak brand from traditional photography to digital technology.

Baynes, a public finance attorney who began her career at Nixon Peabody, is returning to the firm’s Rochester office from DLA Piper. She represents government authorities, issuers and underwriters in connection with industrial development revenue bonds, civic facility revenue bonds, college and university bonds, hospital, health care and senior living bonds, and multi-family housing bonds.

Baynes has led or been on the team for many sophisticated tax-exempt municipal financings, including helping lead the Nixon Peabody team advising on the 2009 bond financing for the completion of the New York Mets’ Citi Field Ballpark. She also played a significant role in the New Jersey Nets’ Barclays Center financing.

Baynes also has acted as bond and transaction counsel to several New York state industrial development agencies in New York City and Suffolk, Westchester, Dutchess and Ontario counties. She has represented financial institutions issuing letters of credit and standby bond purchase agreements to support a variety of municipal bonds.

“Both David and Katie bring strong industry knowledge and experience in their respective areas through their years of practice,” said Carolyn G. Nussbaum, managing partner of the firm’s Rochester office. “They are dedicated to helping our clients in Rochester and beyond achieve their key legal and business goals and are a further step in our strategy to expand the capabilities in the Rochester office.”
