A man who was being evicted from a third-floor apartment building in the Cooper Union building across from the Federal Building was shot by a Rochester police officer Tuesday afternoon.

As police continue to investigate the incident, spokesman Sgt. Justin Collins said multiple shots were fired. The man, who was not immediately identified, was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital but did not appear to have life-threatening injuries.

Collins declined to say if the man was armed.

Four officers also were injured and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Their injuries did not come as a result of a shooting or stabbing, Collins said.

Officers were called shortly after 1:30 p.m. to help a court marshal with the eviction, Collins said. An altercation arose shortly after they arrived.
