Canal pond hockey returns to Fairport on Saturday as the centerpiece of a Perinton townwide Winterfest event spanning two weekends.
The event offers participatory and spectator activities in the village and town in what is typically a slow time of year for many businesses. This year, it coincides with repairs to the Main Street liftbridge in the village, which is closed, but pedestrians may still cross the bridge’s sidewalks.
Weekend one features the Snapple youth canal pond hockey tournament in the village; Nordic events, cross-country skiing and snow-shoeing, at Center Park in Perinton; and a figure skating demonstration on the rink at Fairport Junction.
Weekend two features the Molson adult canal pond hockey tournament in the village, an afternoon curling demonstration on the rink at Fairport Junction, and the culmination of the communitywide snow sculpting contest.
Both weekends include an open invitation to the public to join the Oven Door Runners on their Saturday and Sunday early morning fun runs from Bushnell’s Basin.
