Reigning U.S. Monopoly champion and Phillips Lytle LLC attorney Richard J. Marinaccio is a happy game player.
Toymaker Hasbro announced that a nearly month-long Facebook poll will result in retirement of the iron game piece and addition of a cat piece. The company wanted to update the game first commercially introduced in the 1930s.
That means the thimble, a “lucky” game piece to Marinaccio because he used it to become champ the last time the tournament was played in 2009, is off the chopping block.
Marinaccio, 30, of Amherst, plans to compete in the next U.S. Monopoly tournament and will again use the thimble as his weapon of choice.
