Fairport legislator to run for supervisor

Monroe County Legislature Vice President Mike Barker is running for Perinton town supervisor, succeeding longtime Supervisor James E. Smith.

Smith, who has served as supervisor for 26 years, is not seeking another term.

Barker represents the 11th Legislative District in the Monroe County Legislature.

Prior to his service on the Legislature, Barker served as a village trustee of Fairport for eight years and then as a Perinton town councilman for four years.

In addition to his public service, he is a long-time social studies teacher at the Johanna Perrin Middle School and a former wrestling coach at Fairport High School.
