Nazareth College has been named a presidential awardee in the 2013 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.
The distinction, the college’s first, is the highest honor a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement.
One of only five schools selected, Nazareth was cited for its achievements in special focus area, early childhood education, which aligns with the president’s education and innovation priorities. Each year since the honor roll’s inception in 2006, Nazareth has been named to the list, twice making the “with distinction” category.
“Nazareth has a long history of service learning and civic engagement, and believes strongly in preparing our graduates to be active leaders and participants in an ever changing world,” said college President Daan Braveman.
The special focus area recognizes Nazareth’s collaborative efforts with the Discovery Charter School, a newly opened elementary charter school where the students are primarily from urban areas.
Through the following programs, Nazareth College students were able to provide curricular and co-curricular service hours in DCS.
